This division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the water distribution system, which involves all storage tanks, pumping stations and standby well supplies. Lake Michigan water is supplied to Village residents through 76 miles of water main. While pumping an average of 2.7 million gallons of water daily, the system has the capacity to pump 6.2 million gallons daily. The division is also responsible for the maintenance of 83 miles of sanitary sewer collection and seven lift stations.
This division also provides a sanitary sewer service program which assists homeowners who may be experiencing sanitary sewer line problems.

Water Quality
The Village of Glendale Heights is mandated to make a summary report of the quality of its drinking water. This requirement is done annually in the Village newsletter.

Lead in your Drinking Water
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has identified several enhancements to protection of public health regarding the Federal Lead and Copper Rule. One of the actions required by Community Water Supplies is to provide a materials inventory of the entire water distribution system for the Village of Glendale Heights. The materials inventory further increases transparency between the Village and water customers regarding health and safety concerns pertaining to lead in drinking water. The inventory is meant to inform customers of the potential use of lead containing materials regarding their private plumbing system.
The Village of Glendale Heights has provided a map of the entire village that is separated into areas which were constructed before 1986, and areas constructed after 1986. All properties constructed prior to 1986 may have the potential to contain lead solder within their private plumbing system; these properties are identified as tan on the map. Additionally, all properties built after 1986 should not contain any lead solder within their private plumbing system, and these are identified as red on the map. If your property is identified as having lead solder as seen on the system inventory map this does not necessarily mean you have lead present in your drinking water. Water treatment techniques to prevent corrosion of water pipes creates a protective barrier between your incoming water supply and the lead solder. It is also worth mentioning the public water supply for the Village of Glendale Heights does not contain any lead service lines, water mains, valves, etc. The entire public water distribution system is comprised of ductile iron, PVC, cast iron, brass and copper materials.
